KwaZulu-Natal’s hip-hop scene is set to make waves as a dynamic group of artists come together under the banner Wave of the City, a collective formed by Paular Dlamini, Mduduzi Mtakwende (professionally known as Bon Husla), in partnership with Cebo Khowa.
Built on a vision to push collaboration beyond traditional formats, the collective unites artists not only as individuals but as a powerful movement—aimed at breaking barriers within the KZN music scene while creating opportunities for growth, visibility, and unity.
As their first offering ahead of a forthcoming album set for release later this year, the collective presents an explosive freestyle titled “Wavy 8,” produced by OB Magik. Inspired by the concept of the “Heavy 8,” the track serves as a bold introduction to their sound, energy, and creative direction.
The track brings together a powerful lineup of artists, with seasoned performers OB Magik (Hood vs Hood S3 Man of the Season 2025) and Celestical Mic (Hood vs Hood S3 Best Male 2025) leading the charge, backed by a recent Netflix sync and a strong list of individual accolades. They are joined by Ayon (Sportscene  #Putmeon Runner-Up 2024) and Emdeeyou (BTTC 10K Challenge Winner 2025), whose recent achievements continue to position them as forces within the scene, alongside Stone Itilongo (Hood vs Hood S3 Best Newcomer 2025), an internet sensation bringing a fresh, distinctive voice to the collective. Complementing this lineup is the rising new wave of talent within the collective Bweezy, Ricco Tello, and Legit G together representing the balance between experience and fresh energy that defines Wave of the City.
“Wavy 8” also sets the tone for the upcoming Hood vs Hood: Squared Edition, led under Team Bon Husla, and highlights the strength of individual artists under a unified theme: “8 Voices, No Mercy.”
“Wave of the City is about more than just music—it’s about unity, creating platforms, and showing what’s possible when we move together as a culture. ‘Wavy 8’ is just the beginning of what we’re building.”— Paular Dlamini
With “Wavy 8,” the collective not only showcases lyrical excellence and competitive spirit but also signals the beginning of a movement aimed at reshaping the KZN hip-hop landscape.
